Recently, I had to come to terms with the fact that I will never have the opportunity to bear the title of captain on the tennis team. Since I’m graduating in three years, I was completely forgotten, both by my coach and by my closest friends. It’s disappointing and very hurtful, but now I’m very determined to be a leader even without the title.
There are many ways to be a leader. You can be the leader that takes charge or you can be the leader that leads by example. I’m a combination of both. So this year I’m going to be a leader that is fearless, kind, honest, selfless, positive, and always willing to listen to my teammates and friends. If you ever feel like you’ve been forgotten and overlooked, go the extra mile and be confident in knowing that you are called to be a leader in your own way. Whether you’re a leader just by getting the job done or a leader by giving advice to others, every day brings a new opportunity to learn and grow.
